About

Catharina Scarpellini is a Brazilian cinematographer based in London, working across narrative, documentary film & commercials. She graduated in Film from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo in 2016, where her short film Amor, Só de Mãe was later shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Film Awards in 2019. The film marked the beginning of her international career and led to her debut feature, Saudade Mundão, which premiered at the FESTin Festival and was subsequently distributed in Brazil.

Catharina approaches cinematography as a story-driven craft, developing a distinct visual language for each project. She works across film and digital formats, balancing emotional sensitivity with a strong technical foundation. Before fully transitioning into cinematography, she spent seven years working in the UK film and television industry within the camera department, an experience that shaped her rigorous work ethic and deep understanding of on-set collaboration.

In 2024, Catharina joined the National Film and Television School, where her first-year short film The Wasp premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2025. That same year, she received the Cinematography Award at the Watersprite Film Festival for the short film Blind Eye. She is set to graduate from NFTS in March 2026.
